PL refers to Progressive Labor, which was generally considered a communist organization. Amy belonged to a similar group from ’66 through April, ’67. She chafed at the rigidity of their beliefs, and eventually disengaged. It was a complicated process.
Her relationship with Coleman, while volatile, is also strengthened by how he helped her find a better spot in the Movement. An underground journalist, Coleman’s contacts enabled him to recommend her for the job.
She’s quite happy in her new work, and her interest in nonviolence has taken more of a spiritual quality. And Coleman is pleased. Now, he has a better source in the group.
